MLT graduates can work in hospital labs, large diagnostic chains (Chughtai, Excel, Shaukat Khanum, Agha Khan), or open their own diagnostic / blood-testing labs as a small business.
Lab technicians are also in active demand in Gulf countries and Saudi Arabia — strong abroad pathway with manageable licensing requirements.
A Medical Lab Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests — blood tests, urine analysis, cultures, hematology, biochemistry, and pathology. The 2-year MLT diploma is the entry credential into hospital and diagnostic-lab work in Pakistan and abroad.
Yes — and it's one of the strongest small-business opportunities in healthcare. Many MLT graduates start a basic blood-test setup in their neighborhood after 2–3 years of hospital experience, and grow it into a full diagnostic center over time.
MLT admission fee is Rs 20,000 (one-time) and monthly fee is Rs 8,000 — the most affordable in the allied-health track. Federal Board registration Rs 10,000 and examination Rs 9,000.
Matric or FSc with any subjects, minimum 46% marks, age 18–24 years, any Pakistan domicile. Open to all genders. Biology background helpful but not required.
Yes. Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait all run active hiring for lab technicians, often with sponsored visas. After MLT + 2–3 years experience, candidates can sit Saudi Prometric or DHA / HAAD licensing exams for Gulf placements.
MLT is laboratory-focused — blood tests, pathology, biochemistry. OT Technician is operation-theatre focused — surgical instruments, sterilization, anesthesia assistance. Both are 2-year allied-health diplomas with hospital and Gulf demand.
